October 2019 News From The Farm

Our potatoes and onions are now up and safely in store. It has been a good growing season for us so a good crop was harvested.

We are starting to pack and grade potatoes and onions in sacks which are now available for bulk purchase in the Farm Shop. This year we have added another variety of potato. The Wilja is an excellent all round potato for roast, boiling, jackets and chips. One of Wilja’s advantages over some potatoes is that it holds its shape well even when boiled for a couple of minutes longer than necessary.

We have a good selection of homegrown vegetables in the Farm Shop at the moment including dirty carrots, Savoy and summer cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, onions and the afore mentioned potatoes.

Pumpkins are already being harvested and everything is being prepared on the fields for the opening of our PYO Pumpkins, Spooky Maize Maze and Sharland’s Family Fun Fair (19/10/19).

Autumn jobs around the farm include pruning the raspberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries. We will also be hedge trimming, ditch clearing and carrying out general land maintenance as we prepare for the Winter months.
