October 2014 News From The farm

pumpkinsThe potatoes and onions are safely in store which will keep us going through the winter. We are now packing and grading potatoes, carrots and onions for bulk purchase.

The record breaking warm dry weather in September has brought forward the autumn cauliflower and cabbage crops and the quality has been excellent.

The pumpkins are ripening nicely and will be ready for our pick your own pumpkins on the 24, 25 and 26 of October. Harlequin squash are now ready in the Farm Shop too, perfect for roasting or adding to soups and casseroles.

The last few punnets of table top strawberries will be picked this month. This particular variety has been producing fruit since the third week in July.

Autumn cultivation’s are well underway for planting winter corn and the forage maize crops will be harvested in the next few weeks.

Hedge trimming and other field maintenance will carry on throughout the winter. Lets hope we have another mild one.
