News from the Farm February 2023

All the pruning of the fruit trees and plants has now finished and winter ploughing is completed. The vegetable seeds and plants have all been ordered ready for this year.

We are currently working with Bodfari Environmental planting up an additional 650 meters of new native hedging this will include hawthorn, blackthorn, field maple, rowan, crab apple, wild plum, dog wood and hazel.

This time of year we are also carrying out machinery and general farm maintenance in preparation for the busy planting season ahead.

We are still harvesting some of our homegrown vegetables but there will be a short gap before our next crops are ready. We still have plenty of our own sacks of potatoes and onions available in the Farm Shop.

This month is all about getting everything ready to plant for the coming year. Lots of planning and paperwork!

The wildlife seem to be keeping out of the way currently and probably concentrating on keeping warm. We haven’t spotted any new spring lambs in our tenanted fields yet but hopefully there will be a few arriving this month.
