We are just finishing off planting 10,000 native British hedge plants around many of our fields on the farm, all the seeds collected and germinated in the U.K. A big planting project using local supplier Bodfari Environmental and all of our Farm team!
All the pruning of the fruit trees and plants has now finished and winter ploughing is completed. The vegetable seeds and plants have also been ordered ready for this year. Once the new hedging has been planted we can move onto all the machinery and general farm maintenance that is required in preparation for the busy planting season.
We are still harvesting January King and Red cabbage but they will finish fairly soon. After that purple sprouting broccoli and cauliflower will be the next homegrown vegetable that will be ready to harvest.
A lot of the wildlife seem to be keeping out of the way currently and probably concentrating on keeping warm. We haven’t spotted any new spring lambs in our tenanted fields yet but hopefully there will be a few arriving this month.
