News From The Farm February 2020

All the pruning of the fruit trees and plants has now finished and winter ploughing is completed. All the vegetable seeds and plants have also been ordered ready for this year. We can finally move onto all the machinery and general farm maintenance that is required in preparation for the busy planting season.

We are still harvesting Savoy, Tundra and White cabbage but they will finish fairly soon. After that purple sprouting broccoli will be the next homegrown vegetable that will be ready to harvest.

A lot of the wildlife seem to be keeping out of the way currently and probably concentrating on keeping warm. We haven’t spotted any new spring lambs in our tenanted fields yet but hopefully there will be a few arriving this month.

This time of year is a perfect opportunity for the team to keep up to date with all the training required to safely work around the farm. There have been a few visits to Reaseheath Agricultural College and more recently onsite training with the telehandler and forklifts for all the team.
