News From The Farm August 2021

The Pick Your Own remains open with our new growing systems. The fruit has been fabulous this year. We anticipate it staying open until mid August. Once it has closed our full time farm staff can take a well-earned break. On the theme of Pick Your Own our Pumpkin crop is growing well ready for you to return to the fields in October with double the plants for this year!

Currently available in the Farm Shop and homegrown in our fields are summer cabbage, spring cabbage, savoy cabbage, red cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, strawberries and raspberries.

The new season’s potato harvest will start soon with the tops ready to be burnt off and the crops harvested mid September. The variety of this years potato is the Marfona. It looks like we will have a bumper onion crop this year, they will be ready to harvest by the end of the month and then will be left to dry before being bagged.

We will also be harvesting successive crops of cauliflower and broccoli right up to Christmas or until the first really cold spell of weather, whichever happens first. Sprouts are looking like they will be a good crop again this year too.

The maize maze is growing well after all the rain. Not quite tall enough to open this summer. It will be ready for October Pick Your Own Pumpkins.
