Spring is certainly making itself known. Much warmer weather with plenty of lovely sunshine!
We really appreciate the start of Spring, we don’t need quite so many layers on working out in the fields! The lambs have started to arrive on our tenanted fields and a couple of swallows have been spotted but we are still waiting for the lapwings to appear over at Esp Hill Farm.
Plant growth is about right for the time of year. Although Homegrown produce availability is low as we await our main growing season. We only have our own red cabbage at the moment. We are eagerly awaiting the start of our asparagus season which should be towards the end of this month.
The blackcurrants and gooseberries are just starting to show signs of new growth. There are also little sprigs of green showing on the field strawberries. We have cauliflower and cabbage plants ready to go in as soon as conditions allow. Potatoes, onions, peas and broad beans are also waiting to be sown.
The new table top system will be planted up with strawberry and raspberry plants soon ready for the coming Pick Your Own season.
Overall a very busy month for growing and planting!
