July 2019 News From The Farm

This year we opened the PYO earlier than we have ever done before. But then it rained and it rained! We did lose some fruit to the flooding but because we plant early, mid and late varieties we have plenty left for the rest of the season. Now the warmer weather has finally arrived all fruits will be ripening fairly quickly.

Other homegrown produce available in the Farm Shop include cauliflowers, broccoli, hispi and summer cabbages. We also have our own strawberries available just in case you don’t want to pick your own.

The raspberry crop is looking good although we have had to water them a little. Lovely juicy large berries will be ready to pick soon. The potato crop is looking good and will probably be ready mid August. Onions and carrots are also growing well and should be ready to harvest September time. We have planted plenty of pumpkins to make sure we have enough for our very popular Pick Your Own pumpkins which opens in October.

The Maize Maze is enjoying all the sunshine and growing well. We hope to open it for the last couple of weeks of the school summer holidays. It needs to grow quite a bit taller yet!

Jobs around the farm are shifting from planting crops to harvesting them.
