January 2018 News From The Farm

January is a great month for your greens! We have plenty of homegrown Savoy, January King, Tundra, White and Red cabbages along with leeks and of course our delicious sprouts which are not just for Christmas!

Purple sprouting broccoli, cauliflowers, rhubarb and asparagus are all growing well.

Winter ploughing is ongoing but slow due to the wet and cold weather conditions. The pruning of the fruit bushes continues throughout the winter months and will be finished before any signs of any new growth.

January is always a quiet time of year with short days and unsettled weather and we don’t get as many outdoor jobs done as we would like to. We will carry on harvesting vegetable in the field until they run out or severe weather prevents us from cutting them.

A few changes in our team on the Farm, congratulations to Joe Collins who has taken over as Farm Manager and Huw Komischke as Farm Supervisor. We wish them the best of luck for the future.

There is always something homegrown here at Bellis’ available in the Farm Shop, freshly picked from the fields and zero food miles!
