February 2018 News From The Farm

Winter ploughing is now completed and we can finally move onto all the machinery maintenance that is required in preparation for the busy planting season.

All the vegetable seeds and plants have been ordered for this year. Soil beds are being prepared and if they dry out and warm up enough we may be able to start planting cauliflowers and cabbage and possibly even potatoes at the end of the month.

We are still harvesting January King, Savoy, Tundra, White and Red cabbages, sprouts and leeks but they will finish fairly soon. Purple sprouting broccoli will be the next homegrown vegetable we will have ready.

Members of our Farm staff team have undertaken additional training over the Winter months. This has included training on chainsaws and our new Telehandler.

A lot of the wildlife seem to be keeping out of the way, probably keeping warm. Just the one Spring lamb has been spotted on our tenanted fields. Hopefully there will be a few more bounding around anytime soon!
