December 2015 And January 2016 News From The Farm

Farmer JimMost of December is devoted to getting the extra stock sorted for the Christmas demand. There are plenty of cabbages and cauliflowers available at the moment due to the mild weather we have been having. This will change as soon as we have any significant frosts. Our carrot supply will probably only last until Christmas. We continue to grade more potatoes and onions and we have plenty in storage to last the winter.

Due to the mild weather we are able to bring you a limited supply of ‘monster sprouts’, we still have plenty of standard sized too ready for your Christmas dinner.

Our own grown holly is now in the Garden Centre but it is a race against time to pick it before the birds eat all the berries.

Most of the winter ploughing is now completed and when we have any spare time there is plenty of pruning of fruit trees to be done.

Crops in general are growing quite quickly as it has been so mild and will continue to do so unless we get much colder weather.

January is always a quiet time of year with short days and unsettled weather and we don’t get as many outdoor jobs done as we would like to. We will carry on harvesting vegetable in the field until they run out or severe weather prevents us from cutting them.

We hope you enjoy our sprouts with your festive dinner and we wish you all a very ‘Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’.
