April 2019 News From The Farm

Firstly congratulations to our Farm Manager Joe and his partner Kelly for the safe arrival of their very own spring baby, welcome to the world Harry!

Spring is certainly making itself known. Much warmer weather with plenty of sunshine. We really appreciate the start of Spring, we don’t need quite so many layers on working out in the fields! The lambs have started to arrive on our tenanted fields but the Lapwings have only just appeared over at Esp Hill Farm. They are a little late for this time of year.

Plant growth is about right for the time of year. Although Homegrown produce availability is low as we await our main growing season. We only have our own cauliflowers and rhubarb at the moment. We are eagerly awaiting the start of our asparagus season which should be towards the end of this month.

The Blackcurrants and gooseberries are just starting to show signs of new growth. There are also little sprigs of green on the strawberries. We have cauliflower and cabbage plants ready to go in as soon as conditions allow. Potatoes, onions, peas and broad beans are also waiting to be sown. The new strawberry plants for 2020 should also be going in by the end of the month.

Overall a very busy month for growing and planting!
