November 2015 News From The Farm

Farmer JimOur Pick Your Own Pumpkins was very well supported, so well that we actually ran out of pumpkins. Plans are already in place to increase the number we grow next year. We do apologise if you were left disappointed. The spooky Maize Maze was a welcome addition to the half-term school break.

The Autumn harvesting is nearly all completed so we are settling into the Winter routine of grading potatoes and onions out of the store to ensure a good supply over the winter months.

Dirty carrots and sprouts will be ready soon. At the moment we have several varieties of cabbage including tundra, spring, savoy, white and red, plenty of cauliflowers but these will finish soon. We still have our own broccoli but that will come to an end shortly.

Large sacks of onions and potatoes are available to buy in the Farm Shop now with dirty carrots becoming available shortly.

It is a little early to start just yet but we will soon be ploughing the fields ready for next year’s crops. The Christmas sprouts are growing nicely and will be ready just in time to accompany your festive dinner. When we have a spare moment during this time of year we continue with hedge trimming and general field maintenance.

The squirrels have been very active storing lots of food away this Autumn – perhaps they know something we don’t!
