May 2018 News From The Farm

After a much later start than normal our homegrown delicious asparagus is ready and available in the Farm Shop. We also have rhubarb, purple sprouting broccoli and cauliflower.

After an extremely wet March and April we are about three weeks behind with planting. Some of our first crops may not even make it due to the excessively wet ground. Second crops are being planted now and we are still hoping there is enough time for a third crop to go in. So far we have planted onions, peas, beans, cauliflowers, cabbages and broccoli.

Strawberry plants have only just gone in and it was a race against time with the farm team working until nightfall to make sure we got them in before the rain came!

Strawberries are growing well in the fields and on the table tops. Gooseberries have set and are growing well as are most of our soft fruits. The Pick Your Own will be open mid June (subject to weather conditions). Keep an eye on our website for updates.

Early and main crop potatoes are ready and waiting to go in, which should hopefully be any day soon.

The maize maze will be planted this month along with the pumpkins. New for this year we have also planted red onions which will be available to buy in large nets in the Autumn.
