June 2014 News From The Farm

PYOPick your own opens this month with strawberries, rhubarb and gooseberries ready first followed by raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, tayberries, loganberries, peas and beans.

The pick your own is open 9am until 6pm with last person on the field at 5.30pm 7 days a week. Please keep looking on our website for confirmation and availability.

There is still plenty of our homegrown rhubarb available in the farm shop and the asparagus is due to finish on 20th June, so catch it while you can. Most of our crops are growing well around the farm with the perfect weather conditions we have been having recently. This season looks like it will start much earlier compared to last year when everything was about three weeks behind.

We have finished planting out all the sprouts now and we will be planting more cauliflowers and cabbages ready for harvesting in the late autumn.

Potatoes are starting to come through and are growing well, they will probably need some irrigation in the next few weeks.

All the additional table top strawberries have now been planted and the pumpkins and courgettes will be planted mid to late June, they are about 90% germinated at the moment.
We saw two lapwing chicks in the strawberry fields, dodging in and out of the hedgerows and generally having an enthusiastic stretch of their legs.
