July 2016 News From The Farm

Strawberry punnetsAfter a disappointingly wet start to the season, we still have some late varieties of strawberries including Symphony and Malwina. We hope to be still picking strawberries until early August this year due to the late variety of plant called Malwina.

The raspberry crop is looking very well after all the rain, which has encouraged large berries to form and we have a late variety called Octavia which will be available until mid-August. Other crops which will be available from the Farm Shop this month are Spring, Summer and Savoy cabbages and broccoli. Cauliflowers should also be ready sometime this month.

The potato crop is looking good and will probably be ready mid-August. Onions and carrots are also growing well and should be ready to harvest September time. This year we have planted three times as many pumpkins as last year to make sure we have enough for our very popular Pick Your Own pumpkins which opens in October.

Jobs around the farm are shifting from planting crops to harvesting them. Our Maize Maze is growing well and we hope to open it at the end of this month. If you didn’t try it last year it is well worth a visit.
