The Country Trust is a national educational charity dedicated to bringing alive the working countryside for children least able to access it. We operate throughout England and Wales, working with primary schools and other groups in urban areas of high deprivation. Each year we help more than 25,000 children to understand and experience the working countryside.
For schools in deprived urban areas:-
• We make no charge for our time, expertise and resources
• Our hosts welcome you to their farms free of charge
• The only costs incurred are transport and food.
Over the summer term Bellis Brothers Farm Shop and Garden Centre have been kind enough to invite The Country Trust to use their farm for educational visits.
We spent a very enjoyable morning with Jim, the Farm manager. He gave us a full “behind the scenes” tour, allowing children to taste the fruit and vegetables as well as giving them opportunities to see some of the farm machinery.
To date Alexandra School and St Giles School from Wrexham have benefited from these visits. Many of these children do not have opportunities to visit the countryside. Many do not know where their fruit and vegetables come from. A teacher commented that they have never seen “X” taste so many different things. When getting back onto the bus another child commented that “this has been the best day of her life – did she have to go back to school?”
The Country Trust operates throughout the whole of the UK. These visits are open to any schools located in a deprived urban area. Visits can be paired with other local sites to allow you to get the most out of your day.
Coming soon.. Christmas and Halloween on the Farm. In Mid to Late October we are intending to visit Bellis Brothers to see the pumpkins and Brussel Sprouts being grown ready for Halloween and Christmas. We will then spend the afternoon on a rare breeds farm learning how the turkeys are produced.
