August Farm News

The Pick Your Own season is coming to an end and this is the time of year when we review our crop patterns. Some of the old strawberry plants will be ploughed in and new fields have been acquired to plant new ones. As soon as the raspberries are finished we start on the pruning, we are also planning to plant more raspberry bushes for next year. The Pick Your Own side of our business has been slightly tricky this year due to the very difficult weather conditions we have all been experiencing, – There were certainly more wellies worn this year out in the fields.

Our tenant farmers will be combining the corn this month, When the corn fields have been cleared we will be taking one of the fields back to plant more strawberries for next year.

We will start to harvest our potatoes shortly along with the brassicas which include cauliflowers, red cabbage, savoy cabbage, spring cabbage and broccoli. Our onions and maybe even some of our carrots will also be ready soon. Zero food miles from Bellis Brothers!

Whilst cutting some cauliflowers on the Wrexham Road fields, Jim our farm Manager has heard a pair of yellowhammers calling to each other, they have a rather unique and interesting sound.
