August 2014 News From The Farm

PotatoesPick your own closes this month after a season of excellent fruit and fantastic weather.

The picking team will start pruning raspberries in the middle of this month ready for next season, the team will then finish until they are needed next year. Most of the members of our farm team will have a holiday before we start catching up with routine maintenance.

The new seasons potato harvest is just getting underway with Marfona ready first, followed in the early autumn by Picasso and Mozart. The onion crop will be ready to harvest by the end of the month. Our early carrots need another month of growing time. We are also waiting for the next crop of cauliflower and broccoli to mature.

We have just started cutting some leafy spring cabbage and the sprouts should be ready by Christmas! The last of the cauliflower plants will go in at the beginning of August these are for cutting next April. The asparagus fern is growing well so the crowns should be full of energy for next spring.

Our tenant farmers will be cutting their corn crops shortly, the harvest has gone really well so far because of the fine weather.
