Plant growth is about normal for the time of year. The currants and gooseberries are starting to show lots of green leaves. The strawberries are just starting to grow now too. The early rhubarb (Timperley early) has been ready for the last few weeks.
We have cauliflower and cabbage plants ready to go in as soon as conditions allow. Onions, peas and broad beans have already been sown.
The only crops we are harvesting at the moment are purple sprouting broccoli and cauliflower. Hopefully the asparagus will be ready to start picking in the next 2-3 weeks.
We have planted potatoes and aim to pant strawberries before the end of the month subject to weather conditions.
The lapwings are becoming very vocal on one or two of the fields now and a woodpecker can be heard around Esp Hill Farm.
While we wait for the weather to improve we are taking the opportunity to spring clean our workshop.
The covers will be going up on the table top strawberries in early April hopefully after any spring gales have blown through. This year’s new strawberry plants on table top are growing well now.
Lots of new lambs are now born and skipping around on our rented fields.
